HSE Lead – Data Centre Construction
Location: Middenmeer, Netherlands
Sector: Mission Critical / Data Centres
Reports to: Project Director / Regional HSE Manager
Role Purpose
The HSE Lead is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance across all phases of a hyperscale data centre construction project. This role involves developing and implementing safety strategies, conducting audits, and fostering a proactive safety culture among all project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Construction Stage Plans, method statements, risk assessments, and Safe Plans of Action.
- Monitor compliance with project execution plans and legal HSE regulations.
- Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
- Lead safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for staff and subcontractors.
- Manage permits to work and oversee high-risk activities (e.g., hot works, confined spaces).
- Support environmental management initiatives including waste control and pollution prevention.
- Liaise with client representatives, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to ensure alignment.
- Maintain accurate HSE documentation and reporting systems.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience in HSE roles within construction, ideally in mission-critical or data centre environments.
- Strong knowledge of Dutch and EU HSE legislation and standards.
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent certification.
- Fluent in English; Dutch language skills are a plus.

- Experience with hyperscale infrastructure and international project delivery.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to influence safety culture and drive continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with digital HSE tools and reporting platforms.
