Candidates with previous data centre experience are strongly preferred, particularly those who have been directly involved in the commissioning, energisation and operation of complex electrical systems.
Successful candidates will be confident working autonomously, managing electrical safety procedures and carrying out switching activities in accordance with established operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out LV/MV electrical switching and isolation activities safely and in accordance with approved procedures.
- Manage and support the energisation of electrical systems, from initial preparation through to final verification.
- Ensure electrical systems are correctly isolated, tested, reinstated and returned to service.
- Prepare, review and implement switching schedules, risk assessments, method statements and associated electrical safety documentation.
- Maintain compliance with electrical safety rules, site procedures and relevant industry standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, commissioning and operations teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works.
- Identify potential electrical risks and implement appropriate control measures.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to other electrical personnel where required.
- Maintain accurate records of switching activities, equipment status and operational handovers.
Essential Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
- A recognised City & Guilds 2391 qualification in electrical inspection and testing, or an accepted equivalent where applicable to the role.
- Completion of an appropriate Authorised Person switching course relevant to the required LV or MV authorisation.
- A recognised electrical technical qualification or evidence of electrical competence, such as an NVQ, BTEC or equivalent.
- Practical experience of LV and/or MV electrical systems, including switching, isolation and safe energisation procedures.
- A strong understanding of electrical safety rules, permit-to-work systems and safe systems of work.
- The ability to explain the process of energising electrical systems and demonstrate sound technical decision-making.
- The confidence to work independently while maintaining high standards of safety, compliance and operational discipline.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience working within data centres or other mission-critical environments.
- Experience supporting commissioning, testing, maintenance and energisation of critical electrical infrastructure.
- Experience working with generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers and associated distribution equipment.
- Experience operating within formal electrical authorisation frameworks.
- Previous LV and/or MV AP or SAP appointments, with responsibilities appropriate to the level of authorisation held.
