DC Engineer – Birmingham
Job Title – Data Centre Shift Engineer (Electrical)
Location – Central Birmingham (B9)
Shift Pattern – Days and Nights (7-7)
Salary – Between £40-50K
About the Role:
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Data Centre Shift Engineer to join our Birmingham team. You’ll play a vital role in maintaining uptime and operational excellence in a critical infrastructure environment. Working as part of a dedicated technical operations team, you’ll act as a first line of response to site faults, implement change management protocols, and oversee both planned and reactive maintenance activities across the facility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the on-shift engineer responding to infrastructure faults and critical events
- Ensure 100% uptime by enforcing rigorous change management and maintenance processes
- Support the Data Centre Manager in delivering strategic site objectives
- Monitor and manage building systems (M&E, BMS, CMS, PMS, fire/life safety, etc.)
- Supervise hard and soft service vendors and ensure performance meets critical standards
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, security, and operational SOPs
- Maintain accurate shift records, handovers, incident reports, and system documentation
- Contribute to service reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
- Provide technical knowledge sharing, especially in emergency situations
Qualifications & Experience:
- Relevant technical qualifications (Electrical, Mechanical or similar)
- Proven experience operating and maintaining critical engineering systems
- Solid understanding of mechanical & electrical infrastructure in a data centre environment
- Strong IT skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, data entry systems)
