Are you an experienced Mechanical & Electrical design leader with a background in Data Centres?
We’re partnering with a leading global Data Centre operator to find a Design Director with strong expertise in M&E engineering to lead their operations in Germany. This is a rare opportunity to be the first Design Director in the region, responsible for developing and leading a team as the company’s Data Centre portfolio grows in Germany.

The Role

As Design Director for the German region, you will lead the mechanical and electrical design aspects of Data Centre projects, ensuring that all facilities meet the highest industry standards in terms of energy efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. You’ll be responsible for building and mentoring a team of M&E design professionals, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
This is a strategic leadership role where you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of the company’s Data Centre operations in Germany, working on high-impact projects in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the mechanical and electrical design function for Data Centre projects across Germany.
• Develop and implement M&E design strategies, ensuring designs meet the company’s operational, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals.
• Build, mentor, and grow a team of M&E design professionals as the regional portfolio expands.
• Collaborate with construction, operations, and project teams to ensure integrated project delivery from design through to construction.
• Ensure compliance with local codes, industry standards, and sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
• Drive continuous improvement and innovation in M&E design, focusing on energy efficiency, reliability, and operational excellence.

What We’re Looking For:

• 10+ years of experience in Mechanical & Electrical design for Data Centres, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
• Strong expertise in M&E systems for Data Centre operations, including cooling, power distribution, backup systems, and energy management.
• Fluent in German (spoken and written), with proficiency in English.
• Proven experience leading and growing M&E design teams, ideally within the Data Centre or critical infrastructure sectors.
• Excellent knowledge of industry standards and best practices for M&E design in Data Centres.
• Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related field); certifications in project management (e.g., PMP) or sustainability (e.g., LEED) are a plus.
