Project Director – Data Center Development

The Opportunity

A funded digital infrastructure startup is seeking a Project Director to lead the full lifecycle of its flagship data center developments. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for a builder who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and enjoys taking projects from concept to delivery.

You will oversee site strategy, construction execution, contractor and consultant management, and act as the key point of contact for investors, clients, and partners. This is a chance to shape a next-generation data center platform and influence how future projects are developed and scaled.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

• Lead site development and construction of new data centers in Austin and future markets

• Own project budgets, schedules, and performance metrics from pre-construction through commissioning

• Interface with city officials, permitting authorities, utilities, design teams, and contractors

• Develop and enforce construction best practices, safety plans, and integrate modern AEC technologies

• Coordinate across internal teams (finance, operations, sales, etc.) to ensure alignment

Pre-Construction & Planning

• Lead contractor selection, RFPs, and bid package evaluation

• Oversee preparation of construction documents and constructability reviews

• Maintain high-level and detailed project schedules (Primavera, MS Project)

• Drive value engineering and strategic procurement to optimize budget and schedule

Execution Oversight

• Conduct on-site reviews to ensure work aligns with design, schedule, and safety standards

• Manage change orders, RFIs, submittals, and as-builts for smooth project turnover

• Track and report project progress, risks, and mitigation plans to executive leadership

• Maintain a high level of QA/QC throughout construction and commissioning

Team Building & Client Relations

• Build and lead a project delivery team including Project Managers, engineers, and field staff

• Act as the primary point of contact for clients, investors, and partners

• Collaborate with design and engineering partners to achieve project intent

Qualifications & Experience

• 15+ years of construction project management experience, with at least 5 years in mission-critical or data center projects

• Proven success delivering $250M+ projects on schedule and budget

• Experience in high-growth environments, ideally with startups or innovative infrastructure firms

• Strong understanding of project controls, scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project), and cost reporting tools

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or similar

• Familiarity with Austin permitting and development environment is a plus
