EHS Lead – Netherlands
Overview
My client is a leading European contractor specialising in high-specification data centre construction. The business delivers full turnkey solutions, covering design, civil and structural works, architectural packages, mechanical and electrical systems, and commissioning. With multiple large-scale projects underway across Europe and several hundred megawatts of IT capacity currently under construction, the organisation continues to expand rapidly.
To support this growth, I am seeking an experienced EHS Lead to join the team in the Netherlands.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable health, safety, and environmental legislation, aligning with the project delivery plan and the company’s Integrated Management System.
- Drive adherence to project-specific Environmental, Health and Safety plans.
- Coordinate and contribute to the development and review of method statements, risk assessments, safe plans of action, and permit-to-work processes.
- Support the implementation of best-in-class safety practices in line with the project execution plan.
- When required, lead and manage an on-site EHS team to maintain a strong, proactive safety culture across all project disciplines.
- Promote consistent EHS standards through clear leadership and engagement with all stakeholders.
- Maintain positive client-facing communication and respond promptly to observations or concerns.
- Design and deliver safety-focused briefings and training sessions across all levels to build strong awareness and accountability.
- Oversee R.E.A.C.H assessments, hazardous substance controls, and report outcomes to senior management, including recommended actions.
- Ensure safety interventions are completed, recorded, and followed through.
- Conduct regular site audits and inspections, document findings, and ensure timely corrective action.
Skills and Qualifications
- A recognised qualification in Environmental, Health and Safety.
- Strong experience managing EHS on major construction projects. Data centre experience is advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to lead an EHS team and meet project deliverables.
- Experience with Autodesk BIM360 Field is beneficial.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Process-oriented with a strong understanding of Integrated Management Systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current EHS legislation and industry best practice.
- Ability to manage all on-site environmental, health, and safety aspects confidently and effectively.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
- Capable of working both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Flexibility to adjust work patterns in line with project requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
