Director of Preconstruction – Data Centers (Confidential Client)

We are working with a highly respected design-build contractor specializing in missioncritical and data center projects to appoint a Director of Preconstruction. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced preconstruction professional who wants real influence over strategy, client engagement, and business growth.

This role offers the chance to shape preconstruction operations at a national level while partnering closely with executive leadership on high-value pursuits across the data center and critical infrastructure market.

The Opportunity

You will lead preconstruction strategy across complex data center and mission-critical projects, owning early-stage project financials, schedules, risk management, and client engagement. You will play a pivotal role in winning work, strengthening client relationships, and ensuring commercial excellence from pursuit through contract execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing preconstruction team
• Own estimating strategy, cost planning, and schedule development for major pursuits
• Drive accuracy in budgets and minimize cost/schedule variances
• Manage subcontractor strategy, bid processes, and procurement planning
• Partner closely with executive leadership and business development teams
• Strengthen client relationships and support long-term growth
• Develop and implement scalable preconstruction processes and tools
• Provide mentorship and leadership across the wider project team

Background Sought

• 15+ years’ experience in construction, with 10+ years in data centers / missioncritical
• Strong background in estimating, preconstruction, and commercial strategy
• Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex pursuits
• Deep understanding of data center systems, cost drivers, and delivery models
• Experience with tools such as Procore, P6/MS Project, estimating platforms, BIM workflows.
• Confident communicator with strong client-facing capability
