Head of Power

We are partnering with a rapidly growing data centre developer and operator to appoint a Head of Power into its European Development team.

This is a newly created position with responsibility for building and owning the power function as the business expands its data centre portfolio across Europe.

Reporting into the Chief Development Officer, you will take responsibility for power from the earliest stages of site selection and due diligence through to securing grid capacity, negotiating connection agreements and ultimately delivering energisation of large-scale data centre campuses.

The role

You will:

• Define and deliver the power and energy strategy across a growing European development pipeline
• Assess grid capacity, constraints and connection opportunities as part of new site and market due diligence
• Lead engagement and commercial negotiations with utilities, TSOs, DSOs and other key stakeholders
• Secure grid connections and manage the full connection process from initial feasibility through to energisation
• Oversee major power infrastructure programmes supporting campuses in the hundreds of MW
• Work closely with Development, Construction, Design, Operations and Commercial teams
• Evaluate energy solutions including renewables, PPAs, storage and onsite generation
• Establish the processes and structure required for a new power function, with the opportunity to build a team as the portfolio grows

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with significant experience securing and delivering large-scale power connections.

You could currently be working for a data centre developer/operator, utility, energy or major infrastructure organisation. Experience within data centres would be highly advantageous, but we are also interested in individuals from other power-intensive sectors who can demonstrate directly relevant experience.

Most importantly, you will combine strong technical understanding with commercial capability. This is not a purely engineering position. You will need to understand the commercial implications of power availability, negotiate effectively with external stakeholders and help shape development decisions.

You should be comfortable operating independently in a growing business where the processes, team and strategy are still being built around you.
