The Opportunity
We are currently supporting the delivery of a major Data Center development in Lubbock, Texas and are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Lead on a long-term contract basis.
This is a site-focused position responsible for overseeing the mechanical construction scope, working closely with the General Contractor, subcontractors, engineering teams and wider project leadership.
The successful candidate will have a strong construction background and be comfortable operating in a hands-on, boots-on-the-ground capacity while also managing project coordination, scheduling and contractor performance.
Experience delivering large-scale Data Center, Mission Critical, Industrial, Power or similarly complex construction projects would be highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical construction scope across the project.
- Provide day-to-day oversight of mechanical contractors and subcontractors.
- Maintain a strong field presence and monitor construction activities on site.
- Monitor installation progress, quality and compliance against project requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical activities with Electrical, CSA, Controls and other project disciplines.
- Manage interfaces between mechanical packages and the wider construction programme.
- Review construction schedules and monitor contractor progress against key milestones.
- Identify potential delays, constraints and construction risks and support mitigation planning.
- Participate in site walks, coordination meetings and contractor progress meetings.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs and relevant construction documentation.
- Identify constructability issues and work with engineering and construction teams to resolve them.
- Oversee the installation and coordination of major mechanical systems.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor performance.
- Work closely with the General Contractor and wider project team to ensure works remain aligned with programme requirements.
- Support testing, commissioning, turnover and project closeout activities.
- Provide clear reporting to project leadership regarding progress, risks, scheduling and contractor performance.
Experience Required
- Strong mechanical construction background within Data Centers, Mission Critical, Industrial, Power, Renewable Energy or similarly complex projects.
- Previous experience overseeing mechanical contractors and subcontractors on major construction projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical construction and associated building systems.
- Experience with contractor management and construction project coordination.
- Good understanding of construction scheduling and project controls.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Comfortable working directly in the field and engaging with contractors, trades and site supervision.
- Ability to identify construction issues and drive them through to resolution.
- Strong communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Data Center construction experience is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline is preferred; however, candidates with significant relevant construction experience will also be considered.
Contract Details
This is a long-term contract opportunity based in Lubbock, Texas.
The position requires a significant on-site presence, and candidates should be comfortable travelling to and working from the project location.
Rate: $80-$110 per hour + per diem.
Specific travel and rotation arrangements will be discussed based on individual availability.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Lead to take ownership of a major package on a large-scale Data Center construction project.
